The Known World
The world is such a scary place,
With truths that seem to make no sense,
A smile biting pain retraced,
And amber hues that make her dense.
The way the earth pretends to sleep,
The irony that sings it’s way,
Of light that seems to shine but creeps,
Creates the perfect awful day.
The only way to live is hide,
From monsters lurking, smirking, dark.
I feel the steps of danger’s cry,
Like one above the crib, a shark.
I do not know where I could go,
The road that leads to home won’t show
The world is such a scary place,
With truths that seem to make no sense,
A smile biting pain retraced,
And amber hues that make her dense.
The way the earth pretends to sleep,
The irony that sings it’s way,
Of light that seems to shine but creeps,
Creates the perfect awful day.
The only way to live is hide,
From monsters lurking, smirking, dark.
I feel the steps of danger’s cry,
Like one above the crib, a shark.
I do not know where I could go,
The road that leads to home won’t show
